files in a folder on your own machine. No database, no black box — open the
memory/ folder and read exactly what it knows, in plain language.
- Read it yourself. Every note is a plain text file you can open — nothing hidden, nothing encoded. See precisely what it remembers, and change or delete any of it.
- It stays on your computer. Your memory is never uploaded or shared. cOS runs inside the Claude or ChatGPT app you already use, and never sends your files anywhere — or takes an outward step like an email — without showing you first.
- Yours to keep and move. Copy the folder to back it up, carry it to another computer, keep it in your own private git, or delete it — anytime. No lock-in.

Install your assistant
Use Claude Code desktop or ChatGPT — a real desktop/laptop app for Mac or Windows that you sign into once. (cOS runs on your computer, not on a phone or tablet.)

Open it and onboard
Claude Desktop: Code → New → open your
cOSfolder.
ChatGPT: New → Project → New project → Use an existing folder → yourcOSfolder.
Then say “onboard me” — a ten-minute guided setup, once. From then on, it just knows.
